Grizzlies acquire Battier
The Memphis Grizzles have acquired forward Shane Battier from the Houston Rockets for center Hasheem Thabeet and a draft pick.
The move by the Grizzlies shows that they are serious about trying to grab the final playoff spot in the Western Conference despite the loss of Rudy Gay.
The team also attempted to trade guard O.J. Mayo to the Indiana Pacers, but the deal wasn’t completed before the deadline.
Thabeet has been a huge disappointment with Memphis, so maybe a change of scenery is what he needs. The center has spent time in the D-League and been a non-factor at the NBA level.
Battier gives the Grizzlies a much needed veteran presence, a top-notch defender, and a solid outside shooter to stretch opposing defenses.
